Antique Northern French Andirons Fireplace Fender Set
Dimensions of the Lions are 17"h x 9"w x 7"d. The long center piece is 33"l x 4-1/2"h x 1"d.
The fireplace opening in the pic is 34"w x 27-1/2"h.
The left lion weighs 6lbs 15oz. The right lion weights 6lbs 11oz. The long middle piece weighs 6lbs 4oz.
I purchased this set of andirons and fender from a lady in France via Etsy. After they arrived, I realized that I already had an old family set that worked well for our fireplace. The lady from whom I purchased them told me they came from a very large old home in Northern France.
Note: There are removable fire curtain hold backs. The center long piece is not completely flat. There is a dent in the top about 1/2 way between the center of the long piece and the left lion. Please check the pics, which illustrate these details.
In the event that you may want to use the lions without the middle section, it looks as if the metal piece on the back side of the lions through which the long piece passes for stability can be removed. I can feel a nut on the underside of that piece where it connects to the lion.
The lady in France suggested embracing the set 'as is' with its evident history. She said the dent and curve in the long piece likely was the result of heavy logs being thrown on the fire over a long period of time. That suggestion seemed realistic and rather romantic....a large old home in Northern France with this roaring fireplace on many a cold winter night.....
I had considerations of cleaning it and then taking it to a metal workshop to get it straightened. Something in me could not bring myself to do that, even if I had not found the old family set. The lady's suggestion along with my romantic imaginings got to me. All in all, I think cleaning, straightening, modifying, etc. is really an individual choice.
This set will be packaged in two separate boxes. The total shipping cost will reflect the shipping cost of both boxes combined and will reflect the distance from San Diego to the buyer.
