    Description

This is my first barn find that I equired in the late 90s . It was already a modified hot rod with no engine or transmission. The guy I bought it from said it had a Buick nailhead in the 70s, How cool is that. I wish I had a picture of his haircut. It was definitely from the 60s.Let's start with the body on this car. I feel it is in very good shape, with minimal rust. The bottom of both doors plus the metal that the canvas top used to cover, have a few rust holes. And there's probably some rust here and there, but it is not a rust bucket by any means. The gas tank is original, and still feeds the engine fuel. The gas gauge worked until a couple years ago. I think the chop was about 6 inches and it turned out great. The headlight bar is off of a 1929 Dodge sedan. The headlights were given to me from a good friend, not sure what they're off of. The lights and markers all work. The rear light is the original model A light, just mounted in the center down low. It has a windshield but no other windows. I added some 1 inch square tubing for the floor, and support in the back. The transmission hump and seats are all metal. The transmission hump and floor are not quite finished. I always wanted to go to a C4 automatic transmission. But it's hard to stop driving something and take it apart when you have so many projects. The engine is a 1948 Ford flathead 59ab V8. It was completely rebuilt around 2001. It maybe has five to ten thousand miles on it. To of the cylinders were sleeved, adjustable lifters were added, mild cam, Bob Drake water pumps, still using points ignition and mechanical fuel pump. And as a Speedway Motors lowboy aluminum radiator, with the electric fan, and custom overflow Reservoir. And to top it off it has an original Thickstun dual carb intake manifold. It has two carburetors, one is the original Ford and one is a holly. The transmission is also a 1948 Ford. The transmission is not the speediest at shifting but it works fine. The engine work was done by Poppy ( my grandpa that was probably 85 at the time) and the person that bought his shop when he retired. The front axle is a 4-inch dropped probably from the seventies, it has 40 Ford front brakes and drums, that are not hooked up. It has the original split Wishbone, a reversed I model Leaf front spring and chrome shocks. The steering gear is a reversed Corvair by Flaming River. The rear axle is a 1979 Ford 9in with 3:55 gears and has 4 linked suspension with airbags. This car has the original frame. It is boxed, and Zed in the front, and rear. The front wheels are X Style Kelsey Hayes from 1933 to 1936. These are very rare and hard whees to find. I've been searching for two more worth using for the rear. The tires are BFG Goodrich 5.25x 16 . The rear wheels are from a 1956 Ford F100, and the tires are Denman L78 - 15, with 4 inch white walls. That about sums it up. It runs, drives, stops, turns, and has an awesome unique sound, especially with the headers uncapped. I don't think I've ever seen a car get more attention than this one. Everybody looks at this thing whether they are walking , driving, or sitting in their houses. Just be ready to answer what color you're going to paint it.It's a mean lean 60s 70s era traditional hot rod. I've gone more than 200 miles in one day. Several times. It's a blast on the freeway. With plenty of Thrills. Just no Creature comforts.
Rat rod, restomod, hot rod, patina.
